Meet Our Wonderful New Trainer and Coach Jen!

Jen Davy is a well-known trainer and coach in our area and we are thrilled to have her join the Life with Horses team. After meeting Jen in May I knew immediately she would be a great fit and a lot of fun. Jen is an incredible source of information and guidance for our Life with Horses team with her comprehensive knowledge of equine behavior’s and helpful positive nature.

Jen had a love of horses long before she got her first pony at age 11 and it was this love that inspired her as an adult to take on her first racehorse straight from the track. It turned out that despite Jen’s knowledge, experience and enthusiasm, caring for a horse that had been trained for the track its entire life required a very specific set of skills. This experience opened Jen’s eyes to the difficulties involved in retraining ex-racehorses, and having already trained in evidence-based dog behaviour she decided to return to study equine learning.

Studying with a world-leading expert in horse behaviour Dr Andrew McLean, Jen was one of the first people to graduate from his specialised program training horses using ethical methods, which focuses on horse welfare and the safety of the rider and handler. Since then Jen has used her skills not only to train horses but also to coach people to train using methods that maintain the optimum welfare of the animals. Always looking at the latest research and staying up to date with new studies, Jen believes that even total beginners can learn these techniques and build relationships through this process.

You will see Jen out and about on the property, coaching sponsors and training our horses. Her teachings allow our new horses to be safer more quickly and settle more easily in preparation for their rehoming. It is not all hard work though, Jen loves what she does and also loves a laugh, which is something we do a lot of here at Life with Horses. Like I said, she is a great fit!
